Do Dental Implants Hurt?

Do Dental Implants Hurt?
Usually not! Since the jawbones have few nerve endings, the placement of dental implants causes only minor surgical discomfort – perhaps equivalent to having a tooth pulled. Most of my patients only need Advil or Tylenol after the procedure! Just as with any surgery, there can be some discomfort.
My meticulous surgical techniques aid in decreasing pain after the procedure. Technique and skill of the implant dentist is one of the main factors in decreasing pain during and after.
Anesthesia and sedation are used to eliminate any discomfort at the time of the procedure. The majority of my patients have this procedure done while they sleep. Most patients report that they were much more comfortable FOR DAYS AFTER the procedure than they had anticipated. They tell me “I thought that was going to be so painful!” I will prescribe medications to ease any discomfort that may occur.
In my practice, most patients having even 8-14 dental implants at one time have very little pain. I have many “tricks” to make this procedure pretty easy!
